With all the wonderful experiences planned for my upcoming adventure to San Francisco, it’s time to take a minute to reflect on the real reasons for this trip.

From dinner at GiGi’s Sotto Mare for their world famous Cioppino to a meandering stroll through Muir Woods and Sausalito, for me the high point of this weekend is spending time with the best friend a girl could have.

I met Laurie at work in 2009 not realizing she would soon become my friend and sister at heart.

Back in those days, my car was always breaking down and I often needed a ride home. One particular day, I needed a friend too.  As the conversation between us flowed easily, we both soon realized we were very much alike. From that moment forward, we have been devoted to maintaining our friendship. Even though we live miles apart, we are kindred spirits.

My Friend

The things I admire most about her?  There are so many, but if I had to pick just two they would be her ferocious tenacity for the things she believes in and her love of family.

Her family seems to be ever-growing with two wonderful children, their spouses, the addition of a loving husband and now three beautiful grandchildren. I couldn’t be happier for her.

We have spent remarkable times together full of laughter and she was there for me during some of the darkest times, when my husband passed away from cancer.

Through it all, the one thing that has always remained constant is her undying loyalty. She has shown me what true friendship is and for that, I will be forever grateful.

“Friendship isn’t about whom you have known the longest,
it’s about who came and never left your side.”
