Bayou Bend Gardens & Collection is located at 2940 Lazy Lane Blvd in Houston, Texas. The mansion built in 1927 by William Clifford. Mike Hogg, & Ima Hogg , children of the first native Texas Governor lived in the home.
Ima Hogg, known as “The First Lady of Texas”, was an American philanthropist. She collected arts and one of the most respected women in Texas during the 20th century.
Ms. Hogg and her brothers used their home in its 14-acre setting of natural beauty, to house paintings. American memorabilia in their collection that spanned three centuries from 1650.
Through her extensive travels, she filled 28 rooms with antiques and furnishings. Today, the mansion’s rooms depict specific periods in early American life between 1620-1870.
Ms. Hogg loved to entertain and share her home. She invited many international people to stay at Bayou Bend. Her China & Silver collection is pretty extensive with pieces from all over the world.
In 1961, Ms Hogg created a series of organic gardens. Intended as outdoor rooms for living, she spent a good deal of time entertaining.
While I did not get to see the beautiful gardens in full bloom, March is the best time to visit. Hidden amount 8 species of gorgeous, I enjoyed the walking trails. Bayou Bend Gardens is definitely a place I will return to visit in the Spring.
In 1957 Ms Hogg gave Bayou Bend, its park, and all its treasures to The Museum of Fine Arts – Houston
